A Whole Lot of Luge Goin' On This Weekend

Canada Luge - Media ReleaseWhile the National Luge Team goes up against the world's best in Europe this weekend, Canada Olympic Park in Calgary will have tomorrow's stars racing off in the Husky-Mohawk Provincial Olympic Luge Championships on Sunday, February 6th, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

Admission is free and there are plenty of good viewing spots along the Luge track to see these amazing young athletes reach speeds over 110 kph in a sport that has little room for error.

Meanwhile, the National Luge Team is competing in two major events in Europe this weekend. Senior World Championships are now underway in St. Moritz, Switzerland and Konigssee, Germany, is site of the fifth Junior World Cup race of the season.

At the Junior World Cup, Calgary's Kyle Connelly will be looking to protect his first place total points standing in the Junior 2 category (under age 20) and teammate, Jeff Christie, also of Calgary, will be looking to complete his gold medal sweep of the season in Junior 1 (under age 17) mens singles. Christie has won Gold in all Junior 1 World Cup races this season. Making his inaugural appearance in a European Junior World Cup race is Calgary's 15 year old Matt McMurray.
