World's Best Luge Athletes Return to Whistler for 2011 Viessmann Luge World Cup December 9-10

International training Week starts November 30, media must RSVP for accreditation

WHISTLER, B.C.—The world’s best luge athletes will return to the Whistler Sliding Centre for the first time since the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

More than 110 of athletes representing 20 countries will slide into Whistler for the second stop on the 2011-12 World Cup calendar. World Cup champion and World Championship medallist, Alex Gough, will lead a group of Canadians poised to defend their home track. The Canadians will hit the track on December 2.

Athletes will participate in International Training Week, November 30 – December 4 (schedule attached), prior to the World Cup which takes place December 9-10, 2011 (schedule attached).

In addition to the traditional doubles, men’s and women’s singles races, the Whistler World Cup will feature the first Team Relay to be contested on Canadian ice. The International Olympic Committee announced the Team Relay would be included into the
Olympic line-up in 2014.

The luge festival will include DJ music, nightly fireworks following medal ceremonies, and great food from many of Whistler’s finest vendors.

Tickets can be purchased for $10 now at www.whistler.com, by calling 1.800.WHISTLER (1.800.944.7853), or in person at the Visitor Information Centre. Children six and under are free. A WILL CALL pick-up booth will be set up at the base of the Excalibur Gondola on December 9 and 10. Spectators can also
purchase tickets by CASH ONLY at the base of the Gondola on race days.

International Training Week:

Media Accreditation:
ALL media must RSVP in advance of the event to receive media credentials for the World Cup. Media can pick up accreditation at the media centre which will be set up at the venue.

Media Parking:
Limited parking will be made available for media in Lot 7. Media may also gain free access to the venue via the Excalibur Gondola.

Media Accommodation:
The Fairmont Chateau Whistler Resort will be the host hotel, offering rooms at $99 per night for a Fairmont Room. These rates have been made available from December 4-15.
