Whistler Businesses Step in to Help Fuel Drive for New Generation of Canadian Luge Athletes
WHISTLER, B.C. — Fifteen years after Vancouver-Whistler hosted the world for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, three local businesses are reigniting the Olympic spirit by supporting a new generation of Canadian luge athletes.
Metronomics, Splash Hot Tubs, and Whistler Hardware have joined forces as official sponsors of Luge Canada, providing vital financial support as athletes continue to pursue their path towards realizing their own Olympic dreams at the 2026 Games slated for Milano-Cortina.
“These much-needed partnerships are about more than sponsorship. It is about belief in a fresh wave of Canadian luge athletes who have come from all corners of the country united by their passion for sport and drive to achieve their performance goals,” said Tim Farstad, executive director, Luge Canada. “Success cannot be accomplished alone. Community-driven support like this helps close the gap between potential and performance, ensuring our athletes have the tools they require to compete with the world’s best.”
With Luge Canada continuing to navigate a challenging financial landscape, small partnerships with community-driven companies help ensure Canada’s luge athletes have the resources they need and deserve. The partnerships also reinforce the enduring legacy of the 2010 Games and the continued commitment of Whistler’s business community to Canadian winter sport.
“The track to the Olympic Games now slides through Whistler for Canada’s luge athletes,” added Farstad. “The Olympic dream for many of the national team athletes in our program was sparked while watching the 2010 Games in their backyards. Now boasting the only track in Canada, Whistler is a breeding and development ground for the sport of luge in Canada and is critical to our program’s success on and off the ice. Having local companies step up to back the program means the world to our athletes. Every dollar helps them focus on training and ensure they are fully prepared to take on the fastest athletes on ice.”
Luge Canada is encouraging other small businesses across the country to also hop on-board and take advantage of cost-effective partnerships to support Canada’s luge athletes, ensuring they have the resources needed to perform at their best at the Games and international competitions.
The support from Metronomics, Splash Hot Tubs, and Whistler Hardware will help offset the deficit budget Luge Canada had to approve this year to ensure athletes have access to training, equipment, and travel throughout the 2025-26 season.
